In relation with this post about PLA (out-dated) where you can already find some youtube videos :
I STRONGLY RECOMMEND TO STOP 3D-PRINTING OTHER MATERIALS THAN PLA TO SAVE OUR ENVIRONMENT.
To summerize : PLA has to be recycled with other plastics because, for the moment, it's not easy or *is* expensive to separate from current other plastics like ABS and PETG.
But it's not made from petrol. And this is a good start : PLA is "compostable". Reduced to powder, it can be used as a fertilizer ! (if I'm not wrong).
3DInsider.com has an article talking about PLA's history (invented in 1932 by Wallace Carothers) but this french article says it's in 1845 by Théophile-Jules Pelouze ... (welcome on internet...). Carbiolice has a nice "history of plastic" page (also in french). A last article at VegWare.com is really interesting and gives links to more informations at the bottom of the page.
Think about ecology and "what if" everybody starts 3D-printing toys and useless things without care !
That would be a nightmare on the long term.
I have attached here bellow some files you can use to mark the objects you 3D-print with the recycling symbols's .STL ! (with a quick boolean difference on the object's .STL, any object can be marked !)
PLA is number 7. (we should all mark the objects we produce, even in PLA)
ABS is number 8.
